Patterns with docker
06 Aug 2018I’ve been actively using Docker and Kubernetes (k8s) at work for a while now. Here are few patterns I gathered.
Patterns
Docker
- Master docker command line. The basic knowledge will help.
- docker-compose is quite handy to get started with brand-new projects.
- Use a repository. You can use Gitlab Docker Registry, portus, etc.
- Use pipeline to build containers.
- Use Clair to find vulnabarilty in images.
- Smaller docker images are good.
Kubernetes
- Use
minikube
locally to have a flavor of kubernetes. - helm chart is quite useful to roll-forward/roll-back containers.
- Consider Docker as a Service solutions to roll out faster - AWS ECS, Google Kubernetes Engine, Azure Container Service, Digital Ocean etc.
- Alternatively, use Ansible (or your favorite tool) to configure a k8s cluster from scratch.
